Hi, I'm Oluwaseun!
I'm a writer, self proclaimed arts appreciationist (which just means I like all kinds of art), and a film/tv journalist - among other things.
Ade and the Heroes has been in the making, on and off, for 8 years, beginning with an audio drama I produced for my thesis project in 2018. That story sees Ade as an18/19 year old University student, but I've always wanted to create something for kids so I aged her down, made her story visual, and here she is! Almost.
My hope with this project is that Nigerian, African, and Black kids all over the world are able to rediscover a history that is fun, meaningful and accessible to them. I am so happy to be working with Denzel Erinne on this. He's brought Ade to life so beautifully and I can't wait to see what the books look like. Stay tuned!
My Story
Oluwaseun Olowo-Ake is a writer with experience in various parts of production such as videography, editing and audio production.
She got her B.A in Media Production from Bournemouth University, England, and her M.A in the same field from Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada. She is particularly interested in how stories shape culture; which informed her thesis “The Hybrid's Place” - a series of audio dramas and an autoethnographic essay on the media's role in cultural hybridity, and her website, storytoculture.com, an exploration of society and culture through what we see on TV. Her first book, ‘A Story and A Play: In Pursuit of Identity’, (which contains a screenplay version of Ade and the Heroes Book 1) was published in April 2023.
‘Ade and the Heroes’ is her first comic book attempt. She hopes to continue to create work that inspires creativity and cultural pride in young people, specifically young Africans at home and in the diaspora.
